David Archuleta: From Idol to Touring

With the Christmas season fast approaching, David Archuleta took some time out of his schedule to talk to The Daily Universe about his newly released holiday album, “Christmas from the Heart,” his rise in the pop world and his upcoming tour, which kicks off in Salt Lake City later this month.

“It’s always fun to perform back at home in Utah and be able to give back to them, the people who have given me so much in my life,” Archuleta said. “I am the way I am because of everyone in Utah.”

During this tour, which is largely in support of his holiday album, he’ll be traveling across the country through Dec. 20. The recording of his release, which features one original song, “Memories of Christmas,” provided the opportunity for Archuleta to let listeners in on his personal beliefs.

“What I want to do with this album is share my testimony of this music and I hope that you can feel what I am trying to say in this and why it’s so important for me to sing about this,” Archuleta said. “You can always go more poppy and radio friendly with the music, and that’s easy to do and more appealing in the pop world I’m in right now, but I want to make sure it’s reverent and sacred.”

Growing up in a Latter-day Saint home, Archuleta’s faith is pronounced through the 13-song album.

“Christmas music is something that everyone relates to and has a connection to,” Archuleta said. “It’s my way of saying this is something really important to me and I really want to share it with people, about Christ and His birth.”

His tour will feature some of the pop hits that helped Archuleta rise out of his American Idol-bred stardom, but fans should expect a Christmas-laden set list.

“What I did with the album I want to do with the shows too and kind of lead people with that spirit of Christmas and the spirit of the music,” Archuleta said. “It’ll be fun.”

Considering all that has been handed to him over the last few years, Archuleta has received his fame graciously. The exposure received from Idol, he describes, was largely unexpected.

“When I went to [American Idol] audition I wasn’t expecting to be on tour and making albums a year later,” Archuleta said. “I was just thinking, ‘I guess I’ll go audition to see what it’s like.’ It’s crazy now, working on a third album; I never thought that would happen.”

Although he grew up performing and even appeared on several episodes of Star Search at age 12, Archuleta wasn’t always sure about his future as a musician.

“I seriously would always joke with my friends, ‘You guys are all going to be geniuses; you’re all so smart and I’ll be behind McDonald’s trying to sing for my food,’” he said.

Until his touring begins at the end of the month, Archuleta is spending time in Los Angeles writing for his forthcoming album. He described the process as more personal and self-involved in comparison to his first self-titled release.

“I feel like people will know me a little better,” Archuleta said. “It will be so cool to have songs that came from me and from my own experiences. I think that’s so cool being able to share that in my music.”

As Archuleta has become a successful pop artist worldwide, he continues to push forward and expand his fan-base with each album.

“It’s been a great experience for me because it’s kind of pushed me to go beyond what I thought were my limits,” Archuleta said. “It’s refreshing to know because sometimes you don’t believe in yourself as much. You don’t believe in your potential as much as other people do. It’s cool for me because I feel like, I guess the Lord definitely believed in me more than I did. That’s been the biggest lesson for me in all of this is trusting in Him. Because even though it’s like, ‘Well I don’t see how I can do that,’ I guess because I’ve been given this opportunity, I guess someone up there believes in me and someone up there trusts in me. The fact that that person can trust me, as powerful as He is, I guess I can do it. That in itself is motivating.”

SCHOOL HAS FINALLY CAME TO AN END!!!!

today, went to school... as usual had lessons... vesster didn't come cause she has OBS... oh man less 1 bingo buddy... haha

anyway, came home did nothing much. had to study POA, did my music homework. than had tuition...

there is 1 thing i can never get... why does guys always enjoy bloody shows... its so ew.... to see all the blood and people killing each other... wth...

just now i was looking throught a toys r us flyer. omg i saw these cute toys that you are able to make your own food.. so cute, than i thought of my barbie ice cream maker that i still have... haha. i shall make ice cream tomorrow and see how it goes XD it would be so fun!!!

today, i went to catch "This Is It" omg it was amazing, Micheal is really a man of perfection. he made sure every note of each song was played properly, and changed to bit by bit to make it perfect. He is really the King Of Pop!! his movements were amazing, his dancers were as good...

omg, i really enjoyed every second of this movie, it was unforgettable.

the movie is already so amazing, can you believe if Micheal had performed in London. The show would be the best come back ever! oh and half way through the movie, there was this kid that went "Beat It!" so cute... aw...

later, met granddad, and my other aunties and cousin Stella. went for coffee at Dome, omg i love the Ice chocolate milk shake , at least i think thats what they call it... went to do some shopping :) than went for dinner.. omg i feel so full now XD

woke up this morning, telling myself its a new start...
from oct 31 9am, i'm a new me, i'm not going to look back into the past, i want to forget and i will.
no matter how fun it was before, i want to forget it all.

its only 2 more years, i just have to work hard, and get into a JC or Poly and a totally new beginning for me. i'll forget everything i did this year, but i know i will not forget Dionne. 100% she's the only 1 that can be trust now, in class 3d2 '09 for me.

Aloy is right, i don't need to have true friends in school, they are actually around me without me knowing. they may not be from my school but they are always there for me. sometimes, school friends is what people say they need, but i don't.
from sec 1 until now, i have gone through alot. and now i finally realise not everyone can be trusted especially the onces closest to you. don't trust people blindly, especially if they have hurt u ones before, never trust them again. they will make your life worst only.

Dionne and i have already washed our hands off them, they can be lame and act childish all they want..

oh man, nowadays i have been so lazy to blog...

life is like super omg for me...

its crazy, intensive week is coming, the event in school that i'm down for duty is killing me,ect ...

its making me nuts!!!

i wish i can just get away with this life of mine, and be happier...

have been hanging out with Crystal, and Dionne alot lately...

haha its nice to get close to them at times...

had SSO on monday, it was tiring but i loved the feeling, its like i'm doing something i love and i can feel myself placing alot of energy in it, hoping it will bring me far in future...

i have worked so hard to be in the top 60, i so can't let Mrs Wong and Mr. Lim Yau down...

i just wished SSO had acting course too. that would be the best.

But i have to be thankful for what Mrs Wong has taught me so far.

I also had a hair styling course in school. it was interesting.. i may need it in future haha don't waste money for a hair cut:)

so who wants a hair cut or a new hair style... huh:)

Went to Marina Barrage just now. it is a nice place, haha took a lot of pictures:) waiting for Dionne and Lydia to upload them. the place is amazing, its a good place for a picnic and other fun stuff.The way the structure is build, its amazing trust me although some faces and the weather made me sick and all but it was a great experience in a whole.

When i got back to school, took bus with Dionne and Vesster, and later left for Aunty Jessie's tution with Wai Synn, as usual... haha

i'm so tired... bye for now...

Went for SSO today,

FINALLY!

ok now, i can tell u wat i have been doing the pass 10 days in Aus:D

Day 1:
Fight got delayed and we had to stop at Aderlade for at least 2 freaking hours.
thank goodness, i had all 3 sits to myself later move to business class to sit. there was only 3 freaking people on business class, and from what my dad's from told us, there was only a 100 passengers in the whole plane..like omg! later, when we reach we went to rent a car and took a 2 hour drive to Geelong, its a town i love the buildings there, its so vintage. OMG! when we drove throught the great Ocean Road itr was awesome. the sights were great! the sea is really blue, not like s'pore's so milky..but the weather was super cold it was like 5 degrees there...omg shit!

day 2 and 3:
went to the Loch Ark George and the Cape town Lighthouse Love the view from the top. nothing special:D the next day took another 2hour drive back to Melbourne-South Yara. got an awesome Suite, and later went shopping around...no hot guys there, alot of old dudes...lol:D
day 4: went to philips island to see animals...love the horse , sheep and all the other animals there...so gentle:D I'M MISSING THE ANIMALS!!

day 5: went over the Harbour City, did lots of shopping (window shopping) lol. took a tour around the city, they have really amazing architectural building:D and many statues...later went to China Town for dinner, omg you know their 1 plate of rice is = to 2 bowls in Singapore

day 6: more shopping, but at Richmon.
day 7 and 8: went to Mt. Buller and did Skiing, saw alot of hot guys, but the coldness of the weather up the mountain gave me a hard time...the whole time i was like, argh when can i go down the mountain... but the guys were super hot, especially 1 of the instructors...he looks like Nick Jonas, omg la!!! hot stuff sia...but sadly he didn't teach my class, what the heck all the HOT instructors went asked to teach the babies, ages2-5...WTF!!
day 9: drove back to Melbourne,the day was so slack for me, i stay in the hotel practically the whole day...
day 10: HOME SWEET HOME!! haha, this is just how my hoilday went:D BUT MISSING MANY PEOPLE AT THE SAME TIME!!

and Mrs Wong was super happy today..cause we're 100% better than before, last time we could only do 3 songs a day, and we did like 5-6 songs!! all done!!
